Dance

Below you will find a variety of Dance classes for youths and adults currently being offered by the Town of Leesburg Parks and Recreation Department. Dance classes are designed to teach one or a combination of jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, and creative movement. A mixture of adult ballroom dance classes are also offered. Happy Feet Discovery Series (NEW!) 
(Ages 3-5) A different theme of discovery will be introduced each class through creative movement. Themes include birds, caterpillars and butterflies, soil and rain, and interesting animals. Instruments, fun props, and musical stories are woven into the structure of each class. Designed to spark your child’s innate sense of creativity while fostering the development of the whole child: body, mind, and spirit. No class 10/11. 6, 45-minute classes.

Dancing Through Stories
(Ages 3-5) Classical music, ballet movements, and terminology are gently introduced while children dance in a story set to music. Children develop poise, expression, rhythm, coordination, and most importantly the love of dance. Parents are invited to observe the last class. No class 10/11, 11/25. 6, 45-minute classes.

Pre-Ballet
(Ages 3-5) This is an introductory course for tots interested in ballet. The class will simplify all movements to prepare your child to participate in Ballet I. Parents are invited to observe the last class. No class 10/11, 11/1, 11/24, 11/27, 12/11. 7, 45-minute classes/*6, 45-minute classes.

Ballet is a fun way to teach your child the importance of daily physical activities. Children will be introduced to music rhythm and working basic technique. Ballet II
(Ages 6-8) Children will improve on the basics of formal ballet. Posture, positions, and style will be introduced and strengthened. Ballet is a fun way to teach your child the importance of daily physical activities. Children will be introduced to music rhythm and working basic technique. Students must have successfully completed Ballet I or have instructor approval. Parents are invited to observe the last class. No class 11/24. 7, 45-minute classes.

Broadway Dance
(Ages 7-11) Participants will learn basic dance techniques grounded in both ballet and jazz. Students will learn choreography from Broadway musicals such as Grease, A Chorus Line, and more! No experience required. No class 11/24. 6, 50-minute classes.

Beginning Tap/Ballet Combo

This course will be set to high-speed, top-40 music and will develop strength and flexibility while allowing students to have fun and learn new things. Learn choreographed steps set to upbeat, fast paced music. No experience needed, just the desire to dance. 6, 50-minute classes.

Ballroom 101
(Ages 18 & up) Don’t know your Waltz from your Rumba? Want to know the difference between Cha Cha and Salsa? Then this class is for you. Ballroom 101 is a non-cumulative 8-week course. Each week we will focus on the basics of one dance including Swing, Cha Cha, Rumba, Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Salsa, and Merengue. Get a taste of all of these dances and take your first steps towards being a ballroom dancer! No class 11/28, 12/5. 8, 50-minute classes.

Salsa II
(Ages 18 & up) Hot Latin nights! Salsa is a fast dance that will put a little sizzle in your step and will have you dancing to traditional Latin, contemporary Latin, and club music. This intermediate class will focus on intermediate rocking patterns, open crossovers, and spot turns. Take our Salsa class and then take it out to the clubs! Waltz I

Dance Socials
(Ages 16 & up) Dance the night away and learn a few new moves at our monthly dance social. This is a perfect opportunity to practice the skills you’ve learned in the past or to check out some new steps you might be interested in learning. Jason Conrad, Ida Lee’s dance instructor, will take you through a great dance lesson the first hour then let you take it to the floor. Refreshments will be provided. 1, 3-hour class.

Private Dance Lessons
(Ages 18 & up) Private lessons are available through Ida Lee Park Recreation Center. Whether it’s for an upcoming dance, for a special party, or just because you have always wanted to learn, now is your chance! Students will be placed on a waitlist and contacted regarding availability and type of dance preferred.

Wedding Couples Dance Lessons
(Ages 18 & up) Couples will learn 2 dances – their first dance and their dance of choice for the reception. If you bring in your wedding song, the instructor will create a dance. If you’re not sure where to start, the instructor can provide music and dance suggestions to make your special day one you’ll never forget. Please call for available times. 6, 50-minute classes.
